Desperately Seeking STELLA D'ORO ANGINETTI Cookies

Imagine the scene:

STELLA D'ORO: 'Desperate. I love that word, it is so romantic.'
CHARLESTOWN CULINARY: 'Everyone I know is desperate, except you.'
STELLA D'ORO: 'I'm desperate.'
CHARLESTOWN CULINARY: 'You? Haha.'
STELLA D'ORO: 'Sort of.'

Oh STELLA D'ORO, if only you knew how DESPERATE I am. I've grown up with the pineapple creampuffs made with your cookies every Christmas. Yet you are nowhere to be found. STOP & SHOP told me you have distribution problems. FOODMASTER has an empty hole on the shelf where you used to be. The Italian guy at J. PACE just laughed at me. Driving to 6 stores makes me DESPERATE. My husband calling 3 more makes it even worse. I am DESPERATE for you to figure out your distribution issues.

  11. I am in Maine and haven't been able to get them for well over a year. I was in Arizona in March and searched every grocery store and found none. In April I was in Florida and again searched every store ... none. The strike started last November. I can't imagine it is still going on. I want anginettis!!!!

  13. I have just spoken with a woman at Stello D'oro directly. She stated that the company has just begun making the anginetti cookies again within the last few weeks and that all the distributors will have them again shortly! WOOHOO! It made my day!

  14. We've been looking a long time. I hope the above post is true! We are in PA, and it has always been difficult to find them, but for the last few years it has become harder and then impossible. The stella d'oro website seems to be shut down or something...hopefully it is a temporary problem? Seems like there are a great deal of issues with that company. I will check back if/when I ever see them again.

  15. Amazon has a link
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OF9NF4
where they are unavailable but you can give them your email address to be notified when they have them. Maybe if enough people sign up it will help.

I am looking for these because I am working on copies on my Mom's recipes for the family and these must have been something she made after I moved a distance away, because they are unknown to me. What are the Anginettis like? Are they basically small cream puff shells? I am asking in terms of coming up with a recipe myself if they stay unavailable...

  16. I used to get them at the local Piggly Wiggly; the buyer said he would try, but I need them NOW. There must be a way!

  17. Federal judge rulled that company has to re-hire 134 striking workers on July 6 at the Bronx plant. The company will comply but gave official notice that they will close the plant in October (Federal time requirement). They will move production to other plant(s).

  19. They can be found at Amazon.com and Quality Foods.com if you're willing to pay the price.I invented a recipe for one of my sons so I have to make them during the holidays.(and any other time he can talk me into it).I mix a regular size container of cool whip (not light) with 2 8 ounce packages of softened cream cheese a large tsp.of vanille extract, pure.(we like to be able to taste a hint of it, and 3/4 of a bag of mini chocolate morsels. I very carefully (can't stress that enough, they break if you sneeze)cut the cookies in half lenghtwise, put a large dollop of the cheese mixture on the bottom half and place the top half on top naturally.Sprinkle lightly with powered suger and enjoy. They are worth the trouble and expense to get.Enjoy and Happy Holidays

  31. I have looked EVERYWHERE in Pittsburgh for these and they are NO WHERE. This company needs to get some brains to figure out how much they are losing on sales. It will be a sad cookie tray at this house this year again.

  37. Wow, this post has been going on for years! I have contacted Lance and am waiting for a response. I did go to the Big Apple Grocer site, my only concern is buying bulk of a product that may have been discontinued for years...what is the shelf life? Anyone else buy these?

  38. I have also been looking for them for quite some time. When the employees at Stella D'oro went on strike about 2-3 years ago these cookies were extremely hard to find and I'm, always looking for them in the grocery store just in case I'd find them. I google searched to see if I could find them today and came across this recipe: http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,2358,154183-236205,00.html reading through it seems pretty close to the real thing. I have emailed the company that bought them out also on many occassions without response. Hope this helps

  39. ANGINETTI COOKIES (LIKE STELLA DORO)
If you're having a difficult time finding anginetti cookies from Stella Doro, here is a similar cookie that you can make at home to use in all those recipes that call for these light and airy confections! The flavorings in this version are genuinely Italian, but you may substitute vanilla if you don't have anise or strega (Galliano liqueur) on hand.

    Cookies:

    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    6 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon anise extract or strega
    1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
    3 eggs
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder

    Icing:

    1 tablespoon butter
    3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
    2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons anisette liqueur (or water)
1 tsp. anise extract or strega

    Preheat oven to 350°F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In the bowl of a mixer combine sugar, anisette or strega, lemon peel and 6 tablespoons of butter, beating until well blended. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Continue to beat for 1 minute. Stir in flour and baking powder (will be a soft, sticky dough). Spoon dough into a pastry bag fitted with a 3/8-inch round tip.

Pipe 2-inch diameter rings onto the parchment paper. Wet your fingertips press the ends of each ring together to form a smooth ring. Bake about 20 minutes or until golden brown.

To make icing: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter over low heat. Add sugar, water, anisette or strega and anise extract and whisk until sugar melts and mixture is heated through. If icing is too thick to brush easily, add more water to thin. Remove cookies from oven and immediately brush warm icing over hot cookies. Cool iced cookies on sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer to a rack and cool completely

  41. July 2013---I'm with all of you!!! Lets start a campaign to get these back on the production line!!! It worked for Twinkies! I've been looking for these FOREVER!! My Mom used to make the pineapple puffs and passed it on to me..if the company makes the other kinds of Italian cookies, why not the anginetti?? Perhaps I will see if facebook has a page for them..if not, well lets do it!!! If Ben Affleck's beard can have a Twitter page (yes, I'm from the Boston area) then our Anginetti cookies will too!!! Who's on board?

  42. I'm going to try the recipe above. I've been searching for these cookies for years. My mom always made the pineapple filling for them too. I'll post on here if the recipe turns out.

  52. Hi, my name is Pat and I live in CT. My sister and I made these delicious pineapple cream puffs for years. When I first had a hard time finding the Stella Dora angellitti cookie shells, I called Stella Dora directly and I was told the ovens making these cookies had broken and they had no intention of getting it repaired as it was too costly. I too feel the loss of this cookie as the cream puff recipe was a big hit no matter where I brought this delicious item. As usual, I can only come to the conclusion that “$$$$ talks and that is the final answer. Many favorites have been discontinued.
